While sources are divided as to where Del Toro was born, it is agreed that he spent his early childhood in Santurce, Puerto Rico. He was nine years old when his mother died, and a few years later his father moved the family to rural Pennsylvania. After graduating from high school , Del Toro entered the University of California , San Diego , intending to major in business. However, he enrolled in an acting class that convinced him to change course. Del Toro began his career in with guest parts on such television shows as Miami Vice and Private Eye. He played a henchman of the villain in the James Bond movie Licence to Kill and earned favourable reviews for his portrayal of a Mexican drug lord in the fact-based TV miniseries Drug Wars: The Camarena Story Del Toro appeared in such movies as Money for Nothing and China Moon before his breakthrough role as the unintelligible Fenster in the crime drama The Usual Suspects
He is also known for his scene-stealing breakout role as the eccentric, unintelligible crook Fred Fenster in The Usual Suspects , which won him his first Independent Spirit Award ; Benny Dalmau in Basquiat , which won him a second consecutive Independent Spirit Award ; Dr. Many of del Toro's relatives are involved in Puerto Rico's legal system. He spent most of his infancy in Santurce , a barrio within San Juan. He spent his adolescence and attended high school there. He appeared in Madonna's music video " La Isla Bonita " as a background character sitting on a car. Work in films followed, beginning with his debut in Big Top Pee-wee and as Dario in the James Bond movie Licence to Kill ,  in which the year-old del Toro held the distinction of being the youngest actor ever to play a Bond henchman. His career gained momentum in with his breakout performance in The Usual Suspects , where he played the mumbling, wisecracking Fred Fenster.

Who Is Benicio Del Toro?
He attended school in Miramar , Puerto Rico, until the age of thirteen, when his father decided to move his two boys with him to Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, USA. Del Toro attended the Mercersburg Academy through his high school years. Following high school graduation, del Toro attended the University of California, San Diego, with the intention of obtaining a business degree and possibly following in the footsteps of both his parents by becoming a lawyer. However, his goals changed dramatically when he had a taste of the entertainment world during an elective drama course. He dropped out of college and pursued an acting career under the tutelage of noted Los Angeles-based drama teachers Arthur Mendoza and Stella Adler. With his newly acquired acting skills and a determination to pursue a career he was enjoying, in the late s del Toro began to appear in small parts on television shows. His role as the villain in the film Licence to Kill gave him the distinction of, at the age of 21, being the youngest actor ever to play the villain in a James Bond film.
