As I understand it, Lencioni is a believer, but the most direct references to faith are usually reserved for the concluding comments in his acknowledgements. Perhaps because of my personal season of life, I found the model and content presented in this work to be the best of his attempts to provide language, categories and insight in navigating organizational dynamics. I could see this book being useful at various levels of church and para-church ministry.

There is a growing body of research and surveys showing the high cost of employee engagement. Discretionary effort makes a huge impact in creative and professional roles. These findings suggest a significant opportunity to the bottom line by improving engagement. Unlike creating new products or raising capital, improving engagement is a high leverage improvement.

The Truth About Employee Engagement is a surprisingly quick-read and would qualify as a page-turner in my opinion given the genre. Brian retires as CEO after successfully building up a fitness company and selling the business. His friends and family are shocked when he decides to re-enter the game by becoming the weekend manager and part-owner of a little, Italian restaurant in need of some big help.
