Ten Things I Hate about You by David Levithan

Buzzword A Thon
Golden Girls Read A Thon: Read a book that includes female friendships

When I was 13 years old 10 Things I Hate About You was my favorite movie. I think I saw it in the theater at least 3x. I loved it! This movie was the first time I ever saw Heath Ledger and it was love at first sight. I was also still nursing my crush on Andrew Keegan(what ever happened to him) and I thought Julia Stiles was the coolest. Im tempted to rewatch the movie but I fear I wont enjoy it as much as an adult.

If Im being honest this book is probably a 2 star read but my nostalgia for the movie caused me to up the rating. 10 Things I Hate About You is a retelling of William Shakespeares The Taming Of The Shrew. Bianca the most popular sophomore at Padua High wants to date but cant until her older sister Kat does and Kat has no interest in dating or parties. So Cameron one of the 2 boys vying for Bianca comes up with a plan to get Kat to go out with school bad boy Patrick.

Despite the condensed and rushed nature of the book it did make me want to watch the movie again. If for no other reason than to see a young Heath Ledger.

The scene in which Kat reads the "10 Things" poem was the first and only take, according to the DVD extras. Kat's tears towards the end of the poem were real and not planned. Heath Ledger improvised the moment where Patrick starts playing with the fire.

In the story, new student Cameron Gordon-Levitt is smitten with Bianca Oleynik and, in order to get around her father's strict rules on dating , attempts to get bad boy Patrick Ledger to date Bianca's ill-tempered sister, Kat Stiles. The film is titled after a poem written by Kat about her bittersweet romance with Patrick. Much of the filming took place in the Seattle metropolitan area , with many scenes shot at Stadium High School in Tacoma. Released March 31, , 10 Things I Hate About You was number two at the domestic box office during its opening weekend, behind only The Matrix , and was a moderate financial and critical success. It was a breakthrough role for Stiles, Ledger, and Gordon-Levitt, all of whom were nominated for various teen-oriented awards.

Here we go. One, two, Bianca: Has the fact that you're completely psycho managed to escape your attention?

Sixteen Candles. Ferris Bueller's Day Off. All staples of sleepovers, and rightfully so they're funny, relatable, and oh-so-quotable. But there's one teen movie that tops them all, perfectly encapsulating the thrill of being a high schooler: 10 Things I Hate About You , which came out 20 years ago this month. Yes, the movie that introduced Heath Ledger to the masses, made us all shed a tear during Julia Stiles' emotional poem recitation, and inspired many to start a petition to get Save Ferris to play at their prom, has been around for two decades.

  1. TEN THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU written by Karen McCullah Lutz & Kirsten Smith based on 'Taming of the Shrew" by William Shakespeare Revision November.

  2. Among the crop of recent teen-age movies whose plots parody stories from classic literature, ''10 Things I Hate About You,'' a high-school ''Taming of the Shrew,'' tries the hardest of any to season its screenplay with authentic Shakespearean touches.
