Last to Die (Rizzoli & Isles, #10) by Tess Gerritsen

For the second time in his short life, Teddy Clock has survived a massacre. Two years ago, he barely escaped when his entire family was slaughtered. Now, at fourteen, in a hideous echo of the past, Teddy is the lone survivor of his foster family’s mass murder. Orphaned once more, the traumatized teenager has nowhere to turn—until the Boston PD puts detective Jane Rizzoli on the case. Determined to protect this young man, Jane discovers that what seemed like a coincidence is instead just one horrifying part of a relentless killer’s merciless mission.
Jane spirits Teddy to the exclusive Evensong boarding school, a sanctuary where young victims of violent crime learn the secrets and skills of survival in a dangerous world. But even behind locked gates, and surrounded by acres of sheltering Maine wilderness, Jane fears that Evensong’s mysterious benefactors aren’t the only ones watching. When strange blood-splattered dolls are found dangling from a tree, Jane knows that her instincts are dead on. And when she meets Will Yablonski and Claire Ward, students whose tragic pasts bear a shocking resemblance to Teddy’s, it becomes chillingly clear that a circling predator has more than one victim in mind.
Joining forces with her trusted partner, medical examiner Maura Isles, Jane is determined to keep these orphans safe from harm. But an unspeakable secret dooms the children’s fate—unless Jane and Maura can finally put an end to an obsessed killer’s twisted quest.

Tess Gerritsen on her new Rizzoli & Isles novel LAST TO DIE

Last To Die (US)

Thank you! Three children survive wholesale homicide, and Rizzoli and Isles Silent Girl , , etc. The Wards, the Yablonskis and the Clocks—what did they have in common, aside from being virtually wiped out in the same year? Not much, insists Detective Darren Crowe. A fair point, Detective Jane Rizzoli has to acknowledge, much as she dislikes her cocky, ever overconfident colleague. Here, too, the mother gene is in play.

Share on:. Somewhere in Italy one summer, a group of people are gathered to take down Icarus. They have no qualms about their mission of taking out this immensely wealthy man. His wife and his children are merely by-standers, not to be involved. His habits have been studied. He is a monster, to be dealt with.

The Surgeon: Tess Gerritsen

By Josie Brown. If the news that a Rizzoli and Isles book is about to hit the shelves gets your heart racing, go grab the smelling salts. Then again, maybe the fact that she plays a mean fiddle is the real reason for her success. During my first career as a doctor, I worked in a rehab hospital where we treated a number of head-injured patients. Many of them had disrupted sleep-wake cycles and were dangerously impulsive. Based on my experiences with those patients, I created the character of a reckless young girl who wanders the darkness, unable to sleep at night, after she survives a gunshot wound to her head. What is your process for researching the merit of a possible plot catalyst?

While some of her books have been better than others, all are riveting reads. Nothing changes in that respect with her latest, Last to Die. In fact, the twists and turns Gerritsen produces, the wonderful character work and exploration, and the suspense that keeps readers hanging all combine to form what is probably her best book since Vanish. Three teenagers have more than their new hormones in common: they have all survived the massacre of their parents and guardians. When Boston detective Jane Rizzoli is called to the horrific scene where young Teddy Clock's foster family has been wiped out, she knows that something is horribly wrong. The feeling is heightened when medical examiner Maura Isles discovers that there are two more children with similar backgrounds at a remote school in Maine called Evensong, a school that takes in children of violence and helps them cope with it.

  1. Tess Gerritsen always delivers a great read, but Last to Die is an especially tasty .. The basic synopsis of this story is that there are three unrelated teenagers.
